Wereju - The Architecture Of The Soul (2026)

Wereju - The Conceptual Impossibility Of Death (2026)

"The Conceptual Impossibility Of Death" feels less like a collection of conventional songs and more like an excavation. Rather than chasing memorable hooks or predictable structures, Wereju builds an atmosphere of mounting unease, where repetition becomes hypnotic and texture carries as much weight as melody.

The production leans into a raw, analog aesthetic that suits the material well. Layers gradually emerge and dissolve, creating the impression of wandering through an abandoned ritual site where every sound has been left to decay naturally. There's a deliberate restraint here - the track avoids overproduction, allowing imperfections and negative space to become part of its identity.

What stands out most is its patience. The composition unfolds at its own pace, rewarding attentive listening instead of demanding immediate gratification. Elements evolve subtly, creating tension through accumulation rather than dramatic shifts. Fans of experimental doom, industrial ambient, and occult-tinged psychedelic music will likely appreciate how confidently the piece inhabits its own strange world.

If there's a criticism, it's that the uncompromising atmosphere may prove inaccessible to listeners expecting traditional songcraft. Its slow-burning nature requires commitment, and some sections could perhaps benefit from a stronger dynamic contrast. Yet that same refusal to conform is also its greatest strength.

"The Conceptual Impossibility Of Death" isn't interested in being catchy; it's interested in being immersive. It's the kind of piece that grows more compelling with repeated listens, revealing new details beneath its dense, ritualistic surface. Wereju continues to carve out a distinctive sonic identity that feels equal parts cosmic horror soundtrack, forgotten post-industrial artifact, and occult meditation.

He Whom Mistakes Made Wise

In one telling of the tale it was Epimetheus who opened the jar of Pandora, unleashing all the ills of the world upon mankind. The name Epimetheus means 'Afterthought', or as Hesiod puts it; "he whom mistakes made wise".

Maybe one day our collective mistakes will help make us wise???

The Fragment

'Light came from the east,' he sang,

'Bright guarantee of God, and the waves went quiet.
I could see the headlands and buffeted cliffs.
Often, for marked courage, fate spares the man
It has not marked already.'

And when their objection was reported to him --
That he had gone to bits and was leaving them
Nothing to hold on to, his first and last lines
Neither here nor there--

'Since when,' he asked,
'Are the first and last line of any poem
Where the poem begins and ends?'

Banagher Caves

For the past two weeks I've been working on building a rehearsal / recording space in the back garden..

In an attempt to be ecologically "friendly" I decided to attempt to build it using Earthbag Construction..

The work is back-breaking and labour intensive.. Just like all the best things in life I guess!!

Day 3

The Banagher Caves will soon be its own distinct location..

The Architecture of Art

I'm currently reading Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves for the second time.. really love the following section:

"There are seven incarnations (and six correlates) necessary to becoming an Artist:

1. Explorer (Courage) 2. Surveyor (Vision) 3. Miner (Strength) 4. Refiner (Patience) 5. Designer (Intelligence) 6. Maker (Experience) 7. Artist.   First, you must leave the safety of your home and go into the dangers of the world, whether to an actual territory or some unexamined aspect of the psyche. This is what is meant by 'Explorer.'  Next, you must have the vision to recognize your destination once you arrive there. Note that a destination may sometimes also be the journey. This is what is meant by 'Surveyor.'  Third, you must be strong enough to dig up facts, follow veins of history, unearth telling details. This is what is meant by 'Miner.' Fourth, you must have the patience to winnow and process your material into something rare. This may take months or even years.  And this is what is meant by 'Refiner.' Fifth, you must use your intellect to conceive of your material as something meaning more than its origins. This is what is meant by 'Designer.' Six, you must fashion a work independent of everything that has gone before it including yourself. This is accomplished through experience and is what is meant by 'Maker.' At this stage, the work is acceptable. You will be fortunate to have progressed so far. It is unlikely, however, that you will go any farther. Most do not. But let us assume you are exceptional. Let us assume you are rare. What then does it mean to reach the final incarnation?  Only this: at every stage, from 1 thru 6, you will risk more, see more, gather more, process more, fashion more, consider more, love more, suffer more, imagine more and in the end know why less means more and leave what doesn't and keep what implies and create what matters. This is what is meant by 'Artist.'

Spermicidal and Weary of Empires reviewed at Metal Ireland

http://www.metalireland.com/2013/06/11/demos-all-around-me-3/

Weary Of Empires’s second release, the mysteriously titled ‘Through Three Sided Glass’, takes the Noise elements of the indefatigable Cathal Rodgers’s repertoir and dresses it up in blacker robes than the more minimal abstract likes of his Wereju material or the scratches, blips and feedback of his Null/Void work.
Simple, hypnotic Industrial beats propel the dingy, clotted morass of riffage along while distorted, alien vocals fade in and out of focus, only serving to add further confusion.
Trying to penetrate this din is a task. Picking out riffs is futile. The beats are the only elements that could be considered in any way accessible; the only landmarks on an otherwise damaged, decayed map.
Atmospherically it is haunted, floating and shadowy and hangs in some awkward region between chilled out relaxation and creepy disorientation.
The purpose here seems to be to alienate the listener as much as possible. The few lyrics that there are are intriguing and speak of isolation, detachment and personal growth.
The only traditional aspect of the release is the simple, striking artwork, which has a classic Scandinavian BM feel to it. Then again, when viewed with the lyrics in mind it begins to take on a life of its own and hints at something ‘other’.

Rodgers is up again, this time under the Spermicidal banner. The ‘Vermicide’ demo sort of carries on from where Weary of Empires leaves off and in many ways is pretty similar.
However, repeated spins display a distinct change of tone. Where WOE is all dense and impenetrable, Spermicidal is more open and light sounding. Don’t get me wrong, this is deranged and completely fucked-up music but its sound as if the musical, or noise, mesh has been stretched out to allow shafts of light to pour through.
The vocals are, once again, drowned in effects rendering them indecipherable and the drums on opener, ‘Verminate’, are a chaotic, restless swirl which refuses to settle, making it difficult to find an access point.
On ‘Inferiority’ the pace calms but the layers of heaped riffs and noise morph like a growing organism, shape-shifting and spilling over and across whatever pulse is being vainly laid down. The effect is like picturing stone walls being built on rolling waves. It’s mildly nauseating.
The weirdness continues across the second side of the tape with Rodgers proving to be something of a musical sadist. Tempos shift and rearrange while the drones carry on their own irregular dialogue, seemingly oblivious to the tectonic movements occurring beneath.
Reference points are tricky but maybe consider the leeching edges of later Blut Aus Nord or even Xasthur at their queasy best. But I’m not sure if this is really BM at all, other than in spirit.
For those interested in exploring the furthest blurry edges of BM, Industrial and Noise, this is well worth a listen.

Home-made Instruments (Part One)

I spent a few days over Christmas making a Steel Bow Chime out of an old tumble-dryer drum.. It sounds pretty cool.. Looking forward to it's appearance on some upcoming recordings..
